Hello!
I'm Tate Ewing, a Seattle based Full Stack Software Engineer, currently looking for my next role as a web developer or data scientist.
See my professional experience on my resume or LinkedIn, and check out my personal projects on GitHub.
About me
I'm a Software Engineer who is interested in working for a company with a mission I support. I have 3 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer, including frontend projects in React and TypeScript, backend projects in a .NET monolith, and creating a containerized API using NestJS and MongoDB. For my next role, I'm looking for Software Engineer positions where I can contribute across the stack and participate in design discussions. I'm open to Remote and Hybrid roles, and I'm willing to relocate for the right opportunity.
When I'm not working, I love getting outside any way I can. On a nice sunny day, you can find me rock climbing at Index, snowboarding somewhere in the Cascades, or surfing at Westport. I also really enjoy cooking and will spend an hour extra to make something tastier.

Education
Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, Minor in Physics
Earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, covering the fundamentals plus specific coursework in Computer Networks, Robotics, Machine Learning, and Neural Networks. Minor in Physics covered Newtonian Mechanics through Special Relativity.
Work Experience
Software Engineer
Converted legacy frontend components to modern TypeScript/React and worked in the core eSign .NET API to improve mobile signing experience (display PDFs as HTML) and enable 21 CFR Part 11 compliance for Life Sciences customers. I addressed production bugs, reduced resource consumption by 25% for PDF to HTML conversion, and algorithmically corrected errors in the converted HTML.
Software Engineer II
Led delivery of monthly reports to Life Sciences customers to validate 21 CFR Part 11 compliance and built a new API to bring the report delivery service out of the .NET monolith. I helped design schema to model accounts and reports in MongoDB database, built NestJS service to store and deliver reports to customers, and deployed it as a containerized app using Docker and Kubernetes.
Projects
The website you are looking at! I built it from scratch using Next.js and Tailwind CSS, and deployed it using GitHub pages.
A data visualization app showing my personal outdoor activity data from the past few years. I used Jupyter Notebooks with Pandas to organize the data, and Streamlit to display it with a Mapbox backdrop.
Bend Wildfire Exposure Map
A map I made using QGIS, highlighting Bend public parks' exposure to wildfires. Data are compiled from Deschutes County and US Forest Service open data portals.
What my teammates say about me...

During our time working together, Tate consistently demonstrated dedication, hard work, and a deep understanding of Kubernetes, NodeJs, and MongoDB. His expertise was instrumental in successfully launching a new microservice for our team. [...] He took the lead in overcoming challenges and fostering collaboration across teams, making the process remarkably smooth. [...] In summary, Tate is an outstanding colleague who I wholeheartedly endorse.

Tate was the engineer on the HLS vertical team at DocuSign during my time as product lead. Tate ramped quickly to the product and led the revamp of the Validator feature which contributes ~$4M annually to DocuSign’s revenue. He is fast to highlight any blockers and good at coordinating across other tech teams to unblock releases. He also thought through corner cases to ensure great customer experience. Highly recommend him for software development roles.

I have worked closely with Tate Ewing for about 2.5 years. Tate joined as a junior developer and quickly build up his domain knowledge in our product - Validator for Life Sciences - and started delivering on it. System was complicated, with multiple dependencies in different stacks. It was obvious Tate had the tenacity to take complicated tasks and break them apart and get them done. [...] Tate has a great work ethic and he has always been a pleasure to work with. I would gladly recommend him to any employer looking for talented young engineers that would deliver strong results on any technical project.
